Ever noticed how some of the books are a bit different from one to the next? Well, they are customized to the customers preference. Some like a long-stroke staining to give the cover more of a wood-grain style with varying light and dark coloring running through it. Others prefer a short stroke to really bring out the varius shades of their preferred color. In any case, each is one of a kind and makes a statement all their own.      Some folks also prefer to have a different style of cover on their books. I have three basic styles. The traditional fold-over, the stylish fold under for those that prefer to have a custom artwork cover, and the ever popular open cover that is becoming very popular with the smaller notebooks and calendar books.      Decide for yourself what YOU prefer and we can make it happen! Remember, I am here to answer any questions you might have to make your book purchase a memorable experience. This is the kind of book that you'll want to buried with. Your kids and grand kids will fight over it when your gone. Shouldn't something this personal and beautiful be the absolute best that it can be for you?!

Standard Dye Color Selection

These four colors are what I keep in stock in quantity. There is absolutely no charge inchoosing any one of these 4 colors. It will be part of the book price. The only time I charge for color is when someone chooses something outside of these 4.

These are colors that I have access to, but don't keep on hand...can you imagine the amount of space that I would need to keep all of these colors, tools, stamps, leather, etc??? I live in an APARTMENT!!!! hehe. I can get these colors, no problem, but it is an out-of-the-way trip for me, plus the cost of the coloring itself...hence, these are only available on custom orders. If you want it, I'll do my best to give it to you!

Dyeing Style

A short stoke style is basically coating a wool daubber with dye and streaking it from top to bottom with

varying pressure and amount of dye on it. This created a short varying pattern much like a wood grain that you'd see on paneling. I use this method to "antique" finish a book.

A long stroke style is much like the above except that it truly brings out the color shading in a dramatic wood grain style. The lighter and darker streaks makes each

book unique with a style all its own. This is rapidly becoming a favorite of my customers that want the One-of-a-kind look.

A Solid Stroke involves wetting the leather first and then applying the dye evenly with a spray bottle. It creates a solid color that penetrates deep into the

leather to give it a uniform color all the way around. It adds a classy touch with a warm, solid feel to it as well.

Cover Style

This is the standard style of fold over flap that truly makes a colonial style book COLONIAL Style! It offers a traditional look and feel when you handle it as well. This is the very first style that I started with and am most proud of. The flap folds over the cover giving it a great deal of protection and durability that will last a lifetime!

I don't currently have a picture of this type of book, though I have made a few. This is the type of fold-under style that I recommend when you have custom stampwork and artwork applied to the cover. Why cover up a work of art. Its still sturdy and durable but leaves a broader surface open to truly appreciate your custom book cover.

This is my open cover. Much like a standard book that you'd see today. The big difference is that the front and back covers stick out about 1/4" further than the pages and will naturally crease in the center as the leather cord wraps around it. This style looks great with and without a concho. I highly recommend it for the notebooks over the journal/sketchbooks.
