| Codex Style Large Book |
| I was recently commissioned by a young lady to come up with a book large enough to hold a standard page securely, and include thick pages of graph paper. Well, I got to thinking about it. How could I make such a book and still keep to my philosophy of traditional style books?! I mean, anyone can leather cover a three ring binder...
So, after a little research and sketching, it hit me that I could use a codex binding style. Its an old world design, and it fits with my philosophy just fine! But what materials to use? I thought of using wood, aluminum, and all kinds of other stuff to make the codex spine out of. It occurred to me that 8-9oz leather would do the job just fine...so I tried it. Low and behold! It worked better than I had imagined! As you can see from the pictures, its simple, effective, and infinitely durable! Looks damn good too! To make a long story short, I managed to make the book for the young lady and even managed to make custom graph paper for her as well! The book measures approx. 12" x 9.5". The pages are completely protected with a minimum of 1/4" of leather around them. This book holds approx. 100 sheets of paper giving you 200 pages to use as you like. A Codex binding is extremely versatile. It allows you to use whatever paper you like without having to send it back to me for refills. It accepts any standard 3 hole punch paper that you care to use. The possibilities are endless. I truly loved making this book. So much in fact that I look forward to making many more similar books to it of all sizes!!! There are many options that you can select for this book to customize it. You can get your choice of screw-back concho-closure, leather color, initials/lettering, and various paper options as well. Just take a look into the Custom Options section to see all the options. |
